8000 HorsePower and No Control!

I recently received an e-mail from a customer who was pondering reasons why he had not been financially successful even though he knew he had the ability to earn high income.

Here is what he had to say about income:-

I had always believed that I could solve any money problems by simply increasing my income. I believed I had very little control of outgoing expenses. My focus was on increasing income only.

I was thinking about his comments and realised there was a lesson in here for all of us.

I concluded that the most important ‘strength’ is control, not power!

If you don’t believe me, take a look at these images of an 8000 Horsepower ‘Funny Car’! These cars are the absolute extreme of how much power you can fit onto four wheels, yet even though the focus is on extreme power, as you can see, without control all that power is actually a huge liability!

As you can see, having all that power with no control led to disaster!

In everything that I can think of, there is always more benefit in having control than there is in having extreme power, income, strength, speed, intelligence, etc etc etc.

I’ll give you another example;

Hit a bullet with a hammer and look out! Who knows where that projectile is going to go! Put it in a rifle with no sights and you know it will go in the general direction the barrel is pointing but it would still be pretty dangerous. However, if you fit telescopic sights that have been properly ‘sighted-in’, then suddenly you become the master of the power and you can use it accurately and safely.

The gold medals go to those who have the most self-control in consistent training and focus on technique.

If you do not take control of your spending power, as you develop your earning power you will just become more dangerous and your money problems will become bigger, not smaller.

This is what the person who wrote to me recently has come to realise.

So I hope that helps to get you thinking about what area of your life you need to get more control of.

When it comes to money, you know if you need assistance in the area of controlling what is out of control you can take the do-it yourself approach using my Simply Budgets software or if you want some nurturing and training (call it personal development if you like) then seriously look at my Simple Wealth Steps course.

And, I promised a few months ago to soon be launching a service where we get right beside you and hold your hand as you prepare your personal spending plan, providing close scrutiny of that plan once it is in place.

I am almost finished recording a series of video’s and other resources for that to become reality so keep an eye out for it in the very near future.

This service will take away the problems of having no plan and having little control while you develop new and more empowering habits where control becomes easy.

For now though, remember, there is more benefit in control than the power.

That’s all for today.
Warm Regards
David Wright
