Woo Hoo I got my Rudds!
May 10, 2009 by david · Leave a Comment
My 20 year old son has been talking about how his friends had started to get their Rudds! When will we get ours Dad he asked me. I wondered at first what he was talking about but soon realised he was referring to the second federal government stimulus package payment as ‘Rudds’.
Well I got mine the other day but then I was faced with the dillema; what should I do with it? I know we are supposed to spend it but I also figure we are going to be taxed to death for years to come after the recession (did I say recession!!!!) so the government can pull itself out of the debt hole it is digging.
About 20% of my readers told me the last time money was being handed out that they just spent it. Another 20% saved it and the remaining 60% paid off debts and bills. Surely all that helped boost the economy!
I think I will just sit on it for a while because it will come in handy for paying my next tax bill! The governmnet will be looking for a bit of a stimulus package from me before too long so at least I will be in a position to help them out!
Happy New Year (or not?)
January 13, 2009 by david · 2 Comments
So we’re well and truly off and running into the new year (3% is already gone!).
The question is, will it be a financially Happy New Year or one we will look back on with not so happy thoughts. After daily headlines of doom and gloom in the latter part of 2008 the only people who really experienced the doom and gloom first hand were retirees who’s nest egg dissappeared before their very eyes. For the rest of us our super funds shrank but that did not affect our daily lives.
Dropping fuel prices and interest rates actually improved week to week cash flow for most of us but property prices have softened significantly causing grief for some people (people who really needed to sell have had to take a lot less than they would have received 18 months ago).
The one thing that I believe will either make or break 2009 is employment. If unemployment rises significantly due to an economy slow-down then a lot of people will be hurting by the end of the year. I guess only time will tell!
I will be running Tough Times Workshops in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne over the next few months to help people get their finances in tip top shape so whatever comes along they will be prepared. Keep an eye out for the dates.
That’s all for now.

25,000 Customers - Simply Budgets is a ‘Best Seller’!
October 20, 2008 by david · 3 Comments
It’s really exciting times here at Simply Budgets. We did it; 25,000 copies of Simply Budgets have now gone out to people all over the globe and the orders keep coming!
I thought it would be a good idea to celebrate this major milestone and so that is what we have done. Over 100 people responded to the special offer of great bonuses and the chance to be the major prize winner over the last few weeks.
Lorelle Urquhart from Brisbane was the lucky 25,000th customer and she won over $3,500 worth of prizes including a holiday for two in Fiji!
With all the talk of global fiinancial melt-down and debt concerns everywhere more and more people are asking for budgeting help. All celebrations aside, that is what Simply Budgets is all about and I am proud to have helped so many people as we reached this milestone.
More next time.

When partners have different spending habits
Hi David,
I love getting your emails and have used the free copy of your software I received with my money magazine.
My question to you today is do you have any advice for couples where one is a spender and the other is a saver? I have read this is a cause of divorce. It is a cause of frustration in our home.
Is there a way to keep both of us happy? Read more

Dear David,
I have a problem. I’m 47 years old and still living fortnight to fortnight, you said in one of your earlier emails a couple of points that I relate to: Impulse buying, could be dead tomorrow or something to that effect, got to have it now, I have all these problems and more. Short of giving my pay to someone else so I can’t touch it I don’t know what to do.
I can’t seem to stick to a budget, Read more

A few comments about my last message…
I have a few SHORT topics this week. I was reprimanded by a few readers over the length of last weeks message (You can never satisfy some people can you? - give more and someone says it’s too much - give less and someone else says it’s not enough!!! - I will just have to try harder next time!).
