FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the most commonly asked questions we have received and the answers we would typically use as a reply. If you have a question that is not dealt with here please e-mail it to support@simplybudgets.com.

Question 1:- How long will delivery of my personal finance budgeting software take?

Answer:- We try to despatch all orders within 24 hours of receiving them. We use Australia Post’s receipted mail system. This means that someone must sign for the package at the receiving end. If no-one is at home a card is left and the package is returned to the local Post Office for your collection at a convenient time. In the rare event that a package goes missing it can be traced using a Bar-Code attached to the package.

Usually we despatch on the same day an order is placed (apart from week-ends of course). We are based on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland in Australia, so delivery times vary according to distance. Typically, delivery to Brisbane is one day, Sydney is two days, Melbourne is three days and Perth is around seven days. International Orders vary depending on distance.

Question 2:- Is Simply Budgets suitable for Currencies other than Dollars?

Answer:- The currency displayed in the personal finance budgeting software is determined by the settings on the individual computer’s Control Panel. As long as the currency uses a decimal base, the software will work fine.  Dollars, Pounds, Rands, Yen, Peso’s, Euro’s……. No problems with any known currencies at this stage.

Question 3:- Will Simply Budgets run on an Apple Mac Computer?

Answer:- Not as yet, Sorry.

Question 4:- Is Simply Budgets easy to use?

Answer:- Most people find they can understand how this system works quite easily. Some people have messaged me within 24 hours of receiving their personal finance budgeting software telling of how it has already made a big impact on their financial outlook. If you do encounter any difficulties, the manual is printed in full colour and set out in a logical step-by-step format. Help is as close as an e-mail away if it is needed.

Question 5:- What are the computer requirements for Simply Budgets?

Answer:- Simply Budgets will run on any Pentium based IBM computer with a CD-ROM drive and 32mb of RAM. It requires Windows 95 (second edition) or above.

Question 6:- Is Simply Budgets suitable to use with a Line of Credit Mortgage?

Answer:- Absolutely! In fact if you have a Line of Credit you will struggle to get the most from your financial structure without a program like this! Simply Budgets has a built in interest calculator to estimate your monthly interest payments. This will allow you to effectively plan your debt reduction strategies and then set yourself achievable daily targets that actually make it happen!

Question 7:- I have a Mortgage Offset Account. Will Simply Budgets be suitable for me?

Answer:- Because it is important to keep as much money as possible in your Offset Account, Simply Budgets will help you to prepare a plan for the next year (and beyond) that will help you squeeze the maximum benefit from this type of account.

Question 8:- Can I pay my bills by Credit Card using this system?

Answer:- You certainly can! In fact, Simply Budgets will allow you to create a plan for your Credit Card spending for the entire next year. You should never blow-out your Credit Card again!

There is one restriction though! At present, Simply Budgets only allows for the use of one Credit Card that is paid in full each month. If you have other Cards that are overdrawn you should enter them as if they are Personal Loans that need to be repaid on a regular basis until they are paid off.

Any chance of incorporating this into an iphone app at all??? Would be great! I currently have to use it via Parallels on the Mac which is quite cumbersome… so would be great if there was a Mac or iPhone app version in the works?

    • admin:

      Alexia,

We are now working on adding the ability to enter actual expenses so you can track these against budgeted expenses. This will become available in a Mac version with an iphone app to allow people to enter expenses while out and about and then synchronize when you get back home.

This will take a while to complete but is on the way.

How is the Mac version going? I’ve just bought a mac and have not yet bought parallels as this program is probably the only one i need to run on windows

        • admin:

Neville, we are having a good hard look at this issue and it seems the smartest next move is to develop an online application that can be used with any hardware that can surf the web. That would mean, Mac, PC, iPhone Android, iPad….

Will take some time but seems like the smartest next move considering that Windows 8 has now moved the goalposts in that direction.

In the mean time you will need some extra software on your Mac to run Simply Budgets sorry.

          Neville,

How does simply budgets cater for people with a casual job (and hence irregular income)?

    • admin:

      Jacob,

The budget is generated from the expenses you enter. This then calculates the deposit you would need to deposit on a regular basis to make the budget work. From there it generates balances that are your targets to try to hit along the way. Whether you get paid on a regular basis or not the budget shows you where you would NEED to be to be on track. It therefore is VERY helpful if you income fluctuates because you always know where you should be if you are going to pay your bills on time and have money put away for the things you need when you need them.

  • Hayley:

This is the BEST and easiest budget program I have ever used! Data entry is so simple and the reports make it so easy to understand where you are with your money and where you are headed.

Please Please Please Please make it work for Apple Mac users. I can’t find anyhthing that compares to this program and I am desperate to get my finances back on track!

    Thanks Simply Budgets!

  • Naomi:

Hi – my husband & I have two bank accounts, my salary goes into one and mortgage, annuals (insurance, rates etc) and car repayments come out of that. The other account, his salary is paid into a ‘living expenses’ (groceries, utilities etc) come out of that.

What would be the best way to manage this in Simply Budgets version 2?

    Thanks,
    Naomi

      Naomi,

You have two separate budgets there. A ‘His’ and a ‘Hers’!

Whenever you have the income separated so it goes into two different accounts then it becomes two budgets. You could ‘fudge’ it into one budget by setting up an automated transfer from one account to the other and then paying the bills from the one account receiving the benefit of the transfer.

If you like that idea do the budget first with all the expenses included and you will find out at the end of the exercise how much to make the transfer so the budget will work. (The transfer will need to be the amount of the budget shortfall without the second income). You can then set up the transfer and add it to the budget as an Additional Income.
