Success Story #14

Budgeting Successfully Makes Life So Easy!
I have been careful not to use the 'Success Stories' as a way of blowing my own trumpet
(so to speak) but today I am going to let the
story speak for itself.
Jane is an Accountant by trade so has a fairly
good understanding of money. She recently e-mailed
me and told me of her experiences since purchasing
my Simply Budgets software. This is what she said:-
Hi David,
Your hints and tips e-mails have been invaluable
and the software has changed my life!
I feel so in control now of my financial life, so
much so that I have booked my next overseas holiday
and am looking to purchase a second investment
property.
I used to keep a detailed excel spreadsheet every
month of my 'actual' expenses thinking that I was
'budgeting' but all it was doing for me was telling
me that every month I was going backwards because I
was spending more than I earned! I did this for
about 2 years and did manage to keep my head above
water but never really felt like I was getting ahead.
When my copy of Simply Budgets arrived, I spent days
pouring over the book and working out how best to use
the software for my needs. I realised I was able to
look 12 months in advance and see exactly where I'd
be instead of just knowing 'month to month'. I could
then play around with allowing myself different
amounts of 'spending' money each month and see how it
affected the bottom line. I particularly liked the
'long term' expenses because they were always a killer
when they seemingly unexpectedly popped up.
Now days instead of living 'month to month' on the
excel spreadsheet I'm living 'year to year' with the
budgeting software. I don't panic anymore that I'm
going backwards if the bank balance seems to go down
one month because the software looks at the overall
picture.
I have 2 mortgages (one home and one investment
property) so my bank balance varies greatly within
the month. When I recently decided it was time for
an overseas holiday I simply put the airfares and
accommodation payments in to my 'regular expenses'
when they fell due and saw that I would still have
enough spending money come August, when I wanted to
travel.
My husband and I plan to do the same thing when we
start planning for a family at the end of this year,
we will put regular planned savings amounts into
'long term savings' until it's time for me to stop
work, then I'll put an 'end date' on my income and
the software will tell me how long I can afford to
be off work before we start going backwards.
As you can see I really love the software!!
Kind regards,
Jane
There you have it; so now you know why I get excited
in my work!
It is 5 years this week since I quit my job as a school
teacher and I am so glad that I did. Almost 23,000
copies of Simply Budgets have been sent out in that
time to people all over the world and I regularly get
feedback like I got from Jane.
