I’m sure you’ve head the saying ‘It’s not what you know but WHO you know that makes the difference’.
I’d like to suggest this one… ‘It’s not what you know but what you DO that makes the difference!’
Knowing how to do something means Diddley Squat unless you actually go and do it.
- Knowing how to make a profit on a property deal means nothing if you’re too afraid to actually go and do it!
- Knowing how to fix your washing machine is no use if you’re too lazy to go and do it!
- Knowing what your bank balance needs to be each week is no use unless you actually do something about following the plan.
I just got off the phone from a customer who I have not spoken to for a few years.
He told me he was currently bankrupt so I asked him when he would be out of bankruptcy. He told me he wasn’t sure when it would end so I suggested he make a phone call to find out.
At this point he hesitated! Now in his defence, there were some complications that meant making the phone call ‘might’ cause some additional hardship but I convinced him that NOT making the call was not going to help. So we hung up, he made the call and then called me back.
Guess what? The bankruptcy was discharged almost a year ago and the possible complications did not exist!
All this year he has been operating in the belief that there were many things he could NOT do because of the bankruptcy and none of that was true.
This was a case of ‘It’s not what you know but what you DON”T KNOW that was stopping him from DOing just about anything!
The act of DOing made all the difference! Picking up the phone and facing the fear of things getting worse (and thus being stuck between the proverbial rock and hard place even longer) made all the difference. Now he knows he’s not bankrupt he can move forward!!
Needless to say we had a good laugh and there were some sigh’s of relief and then the realisation that this was a turning point and a new beginning kicked in. Goodness knows where the paperwork discharging the bankruptcy disappeared to but that’s another story!
So right now you need to ask yourself what you are putting off that is currently holding you stuck in a place you don’t like? It might not even be real!
